Annual WOCA Party

The West Oakland Commerce Association held it's annual networking mixer and summer party on Thursday, July 28th in 2011.

American Steel Studios hosted WOCA's biggest event of the year, this year and what an event it was! An amazing array of sculptures and various art works, the majority of which were created entirely from re-purposed materials, were on display. Trolley tours throughout the 6-acre facility whisked attendees through and around all

of the various work spaces allowing presenting artists and craftspeople the opportunity to display their wares and even offer demonstrations. One highlight was a demonstration by a trapeze artist.

American Steel Studios event space for future events was also on display.

Food and Refreshments were provided by WOCA with a special donation of two kegs of their ultra-fine brews by Linden Street Brewery. Bay Alarm sponsored the permitting process so that The City was very content that rules of assembly were being observed. Mayor Quan made a welcomed appearance as did upwards of 200 excited guests primarily from the WOCA membership roster and the Oakland Business Community.

Music was provided by Bay Area band Lucid, to rave reviews.

New Artist Residency Program
Paul Dresher Dance/Art Feb 2012 Residency

This residency is designed for early to mid-career Northern Californian artists working in time-based arts. In February, 2012, 4 to 6 local artists will use the PD Ensemble's well-equipped rehearsal studio fulltime for up to four consecutive weeks (April December) as well as our fabrication shop, state-of-the-art sound, lighting, projection, and recording equipment, and if needed, technical, financial, and managerial consultation.

ARC will support artists who are actively exploring new aesthetic and pushing the boundaries of conventional forms and media working in the following areas: music, theater, dance, media art and interdisciplinary performance; experimenting with new creative concepts, approaches, or method; researching similar or preparing an existing work for its premiere (although facilities cannot be used for public performances). Artists must provide all their own housing and transportation.
